Edgar the Pug

My name is Michele and this story is about my baby Edgar the Pug. It's been a whirlwind these past couple months so thank you in advance for listening to my story.

I was preparing for Edgar for a decade, watching every pug video, reading every article online, I wanted to make sure I was ready to provide Edgar with the best life.

One of my favorite days was in December of 2021 when I was united with him when he was 8 weeks old.

It's hard to choose my favorite things about Edgar, he is a bundle of joy, with his kisses, him patiently waiting for any and all friends to come through the door. He is the sweetest, and the brightest light in my life. His favorite snack are bell peppers, he loves sitting on the porch and watching people and dogs walk by, and always barking when he hears sirens to make sure everyone is safe. Next on our bucket list together was going to a Pug Festival and getting his very first pup cup on the way home.

On the morning of September 1, 2023, I woke up from the alarm on my phone instead of Edgar saying good morning. Maybe he was tired, he deserves all the rest he needs. But he was staying in bed instead of following me around the house getting ready for the day. At that moment I wished he could talk. Because while he wasn't saying anything, he would look at me and I knew he needed help.

After months of trips to the vet, long nights, 15+ medications, it brings me here, writing this to you now.

On the evening October 15th, Edgar and I were sitting together and he had a seizure. Which was followed shortly by another. By the time we arrived at emergency care, he had experienced 8 seizures in 45 minutes. He was taken back, and stayed in the hospital for 2 days. He was given an MRI which showed major inflammation of the brain. He was diagnosed with Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE).

PDE is a severe and debilitating disease in small breed dogs that causes inflammation of the brain. Edgar is home now, unable to walk, experiencing seizures, partially blind and on 5 medications (and 1 emergency seizure protocol).

His life with PDE will be a long journey, of trying to figure out medications, multiple vet visits and potential hospital stays. I know his life and mine have both drastically changed.

A decade ago when I started preparing for my pug, I promised I would do everything I needed to make sure he had the best life. I never thought this would be happening, but most things in life we don't imagine would happen to us, until they do.

I'm fundraising for the following:

Vet visits: $1,280
Hospital Stay (2 nights with medications, oxygen, anesthesia, etc): $5,605
MRI Scan: $1,595
Medications: $460

I love Edgar. With my entire heart. I love him so much it hurts. He is my family. He is my life. My heart is so full of appreciation for any and all help. I hope Edgar can have his pup cup very soon. Thank you for listening to my story ❤
