The Writers Grotto EOY Fundraiser

Friends of The Writers Grotto,

For over 25 years, The Writers Grotto has been a community of working writers and narrative artists who support one another, mentor and teach aspiring and established creatives, and engage the wider world. The Grotto fosters a literary culture that is generous in spirit and deeply inclusive. Our vision is to expand the audience for meaningful storytelling—from poetry to journalism—and amplify seldom-heard voices. We have been one of the most prominent literary groups in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we recently obtained a physical space again after losing it in the pandemic. With our new space and a renewed commitment to equity we will be providing co-working space on a sliding scale for the first time. Will you help us make the Writers Grotto accessible to writers of all income levels by donating to our end of year fundraiser? Our goal is to raise $30,000.

Dominic Lim dreamed of becoming a published novelist. He started by taking classes at The Grotto, and later, was chosen as a Grotto Fellow.  “I realized what made the Grotto special: the writers thrived because of each other. Now, as I look forward to a two-book deal with a major publishing house (Hachette will publish my debut novel, finalized during my fellowship), I look back at those formative years as a writer at The Grotto. The Writers Grotto isn’t just a community of writers - it is a place where we grow by being together,” he says.

We need your help to continue to support writers like Dominic and keep this community within reach for our members—including those whose voices are too often marginalized by the publishing industry. Your tax-deductible contributions will help fund discounted fees for lower income writers, Rooted & Written (our workshop series by and for writers of color), fellowships for emerging writers, public readings and events, and programs like our weekly write-ins, which provide support and inspiration for the Bay Area literary community at all levels.
