Rob Carroll is 52 years old and had a stroke on Christmas day. He was in ICU 3 weeks and on a regular floor for 1 week. By then he had a trach in his throat and a feeding tube in his stomach and was still not fully awake. The picture with the tube in his nose is the day after they pull edthe respiration and 2 days before the trach was put in.
He has been in the facility for almost 8 weeks. He is awake and aware, but cannot use his left hand yet and the left leg is moving but not weight barring yet. There are pictures of him the first time they helped him stand up for about 15 seconds at a time. About a week or so later that had him standing propped (and harnessed) at a PT table.
Rob’s time living in the rehab is limited (due to insurance constraints) and then he will have to come home soon. He and JoAnna live in a carriage condo (upstairs). JoAnna is trying to get a chair lift so that he can go up and down the stairs and go to his physical therapy appointments. Without the lift, they may have to forfeit their home to the bank and find a place to rent without stairs.
JoAnna and Rob haave been together for 20 years. One of the things that is breaking his heart right now is that he cannot play guitar for our granddaughters. He taught himself to play a couple of years ago so he could play for them. He plays in the church choir and it is one of his greatest joys.
I work with JoAnna at Plex, a software company in Troy Michigan, and has to travel up to 150 miles each time she goes to see her husband. Although Rob is making great progress, JoAnna and Rob are incurring a great amount of expenses and could use your help.
