I am a victim of domestic violence and I made the scary and difficult decision to flee.
The emotional, physical and financial burden of making a decision like this led me to stay in that relationship far too long. In late December I reached my breaking point, no matter the cost I had to get out, for mine and my two children’s well-being. I took an emergency leave of absence without pay from my job, left my home with a few bags packed in the middle of the night, never to look back.
My family has encircled me with love and protection. My brother was with me the night I packed up and he got me to a safe place. Three of my brother-in-laws flew from the east coast to my home the day after Christmas and in less than 12 hrs had my belongings packed and in a truck, hoping to head toward family. Unfortunately, because I’m in the process of divorce, it is not legal for me to leave the state of California and so we are left with our belongings in storage, no safe home and mounting costs while we wait for permission to relocate closer to family.
To reduce the financial burden on my immediate family as they help shoulder the emotional and logistical load of the rest of this dumpster fire I am asking for help:
Monetary donations to go towards legal fees and living/moving expenses can be made through GoFundMe or PayPal
Hotel point donations for shelter while we wait for a judge to grant permission to stay with family outside California.
Gift card donations for food and necessities while my income is significantly impacted by my inability to work while I stay with and protect my children and myself.
