Care for Jamie

Hello Everyone,

I have started this fundraiser for my daughter Jamie. She is a 40-year-old mother of two boys, ages 10 and 8. She has always been very athletic and enjoyed practicing baseball with her boys in addition to hiking, camping, and fishing. In April, 2023 Jamie became ill with flu-like symptoms. When symptoms worsened, her husband rushed her to the emergency room. Shortly thereafter, Jamie suffered respiratory failure and was transferred to the nearest trauma hospital in Gainesville, Georgia. Jamie spent two weeks in a coma with unstable vitals as sepsis set in. To raise her blood pressure, vasopressors were administered which caused gangrene in all four limbs and burns, and skin loss throughout her body. Jamie suffered from organ failure and coded three times requiring resuscitation. Realizing the extensive high-level care required, doctors authorized Jamie to be air lifted to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. At that time, she was given a 2% chance of survival. Upon arriving to Grady, all four limbs were amputated and vitals were stabilized. At the amazement of all doctors and nurses, on June 2nd Jamie gained consciousness and immediately began preparing for the long road ahead. Within days her kidneys returned to their full function and she was removed from dialysis. Shortly thereafter, she began breathing room air along side her tracheotomy. Around a week later her feeding tube was removed and she resumed eating solid foods. During this time Jamie underwent hours of daily wound care, multiple skin grafts operations and wound vacs.

In August, 2023, Jamie was transferred to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta for intense rehab. While there she received three hours of occupational and physical therapy daily to prepare her for returning home and regaining some independence. Despite the tremendous hurdles ahead of her, Jamie has maintained her positive attitude and friendly disposition, befriending nurses, and staff.

We hope you will consider donating to assist the family with Jamie’s ongoing needs, to alleviate financial burdens in regards to her care, modifications required in their home, and prosthetic devices in order for her to regain as much independence to lead an active lifestyle with her family.
