This Go Fund Me is for Ndaya Dream Hoskins. Ndaya is a gifted 14 year old, that was born to dance! As the eldest of 4 children, her parents recent divorce was particularly difficult for her. She used her gift of dance to help her through what was a very challenging period in her life. She feels that her life experiences, both good and bad have made her a more compassionate person and intuitive dancer. She plans to uplift and inspire others through her gift of dance!
In her own words:
"When I dance I feel like a flower blowing in the wind. My body just moves to the music and I feel like that there is no one there but me. I get so caught up in the emotion and the feeling of that dance that I start to cry because of my love for it. God gave me this gift for a reason and I know that I am supposed to share my gift with the world!"
Ndaya has been dancing since she could stand! She took her first formal dance class at the age of 4. With her first lead in a play at age 9, she aspires not only to dance, but to sing, (she sings on her church's praise and worship team), to lead, (Captain of her dance team, the Magestic Generation in Cincinnati Ohio), and to choreograph. Ndaya averages 30 hours a week in dance related activities while maintaining an "A" average in school! Her passion and achievements are exemplary for one her age.
Recently Ndaya met the artistic criteria for a merit based scholarship to attend the The Ailey School 2017 Junior Division Summer Intensive in Manhattan New York. The internationally acclaimed dance company was founded by Alvin Ailey in 1969, on the belief that dance instruction should be available to everyone. His vision is now helping to make Ndaya's dream come true. The summer dance program is 5 weeks from June 26 th through July 28th and provides an opportunity for intermediate and advanced dance students to immerse themselves in an intensive training session. Ndaya will have daily ballet lessons supplemented by additional modern and jazz classes. As an advanced student, Ndaya will take pointe and be provided the opportunity to learn repertory in special workshops, which culminate in the Summer Sizzler performances.
Attending the summer intensive shall be an experience of a lifetime for this dance prodigy who has envisioned dancing with the Alvin Ailey school all of her life. Her audition performance awarded her a partial scholarship that covers the cost of 5 weeks of instruction. Though this is very exciting news, her age 14, does not allow her to stay in the student provided housing. This and other costs fall on her family. She will need a chaperone and funds to cover airfare and/or another mode of transportation to/from Cincinnati and transportation to/from classes each day. In addition, her family must provide required dance attire, all housing and any other ancillary expenses for the summer intensive.
Ndaya's Mom has at times worked 3 jobs to provide for her and her siblings. She currently holds 2 jobs but needs assistance to keep up with the rising costs to support Ndaya's dream. As Ndaya perfects her craft the costs of instuction, supplies etc continue to mount. This year alone Ndaya's Mom has spent $4200 towards her dance expenses!
This Go Fund Me is being set up to help cover the cost for the summer intensive and the escalating ongoing costs to assist Ndaya in developing her talents so that she may share her gifts with the world!
