Hello friends and family, and thanks for taking the time to look at our fundraising page!
We (Mollie and John) are trying to raise funds to attend the National Council of Teachers of English's annual convention in Atlanta from November 17-20. We currently teach at Perspectives High School of Technology in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the south side. If you've been following the news about Chicago, you know that there's not much money to go around. Our school has had to make painful cuts that have impacted both students and teachers. Some challenges that we've encountered recently include bigger class sizes, less money for books, and no money for additional educational resources. Our school is also one with a relatively high teacher turnover rate, so our in-house professional development tends to focus on fundamental skills. As teachers in our 3rd (Mollie) and 8th (John) year of teaching, we're seeking out professional development that is both specific to our content and more pedagogically advanced. Our students are not victims, but many of them do live in difficult circumstances, and they deserve the best possible teachers.
We believe that NCTE's conference will make us better teachers.

Here's exactly where your support will go:
- Registration: $255 each/$510 total
- Airfare: $147 each/$294 total
- Hotel: $119 per night each room/$714 total
- Transportation and Food in Atlanta: $30 each per day/$180 total
- Funds to cover taxes and GoFundMe fees: $202
