Several summers ago I heard Sister Debbie Blow, Co-founder & Executive Director of the North Country Mission of Hope, share a story of one of her visit’s to Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the world with a rural poverty rate of 67%.  On the day described, Sr. Debbie’s travels to assess the human conditions of the people had taken her van into the heart of the city dump - a place so below tolerable human living conditions, yet a place where more than 1500 people reside daily. At the time, a mother holding a baby approached the van crying for someone to help her child. The child was very sick. During the encounter the baby actually died in the mother’s arms and with the support from others living in the dump the baby was wrapped in a rice bag and buried right there. Needless to say this story left me with tears in my eyes and a heart wanting to reach out and move into action to help people.  Thus began my interaction with North Country Mission of Hope and the dream to grow my philanthropic business to provide assistance.

My involvement with the North Country Mission of Hope has grown to annually support several children in both the Education program and in the Orphan’s Hope Project.  Each year the organization sponsors several mission groups. While I have been aware of these mission groups traveling to Nicaragua, my thoughts were always “maybe someday”.  Well “someday” has arrived. In the fall I applied for the February mission trip and was accepted to be part of Mission group #67.

As a mission volunteer I am called to assist in fundraising activities to directly support the organization.  My goal with this Go Fund Me page is to honor this fundraising. Funds raised through this initiative will be used to directly support the North Country Mission of Hope agency and are tax deductible.  My trip and travel expenses have been fully covered by my own personal funds.

As they begin their 19th year of service to changes lives and share hope, here is a glimpse of some of what donations helped to accomplish in 2016:

·         Expanded the Food and Nutrition program to feed over 6500 children in 20 poor schools in 11 different barrios

·         Shipped a total of 7 containers packed with medical equipment, education supplies and food valued at over $450,000

·         Expanded medical clinic services to include psychological and advocacy servies for victims of domestic violence

·         Coordinated efforts to place a Mission of Hope volunteer on the ground for 2 years

·         Sponsored 4 small group missions and 2 large group missions

·         Began establishment of a dental clinic and distributed parasite meds and viamis to over 3800 women and children

·         Provided hundreds of additional water filters and rocket stoves

·         Sponsored over 850 children for education within the Education and Orphan support programs
