My best friends recently have been dealt a tough hand and are some of the strongest people I know. You won't know because they hide it very well. They support one another and wouldn't dare ask for a helping hand.
That's where I come in...
Their daughter Emily will be 1 yr. old April 30th. She has spent a lot of that time in the hospital or at doctors appointments. At first, the doctors thought she was colic, and after further testing they started leaning toward acid reflux. Both diagnoses are very common and treatable in children. None of Emily's symptoms have been relieved at this point and she seemed to be getting worse. After 8 months of trial and error, further onset of new symptoms prompted doctors to send Emily for a neurology consultation. Two EEGs and an MRI test later they were told her brain is under developed for her age and she could possibly have dystonia disorder. Most recently she was in the hospital with RSV. Her poor parents were back and forth trading nights at the hospital and nights at home with Emily's 3 yr old sister. Only after a few nights home Emily was back in the hospital, this time getting a swallow evaluation. Turns out while she is eating, she ends up aspirating some of her formula. The doctors determinded that she would need a feeding tube placed in the nose. Once they see how she tolerates the feeding tube, surgery can be scheduled to place a permanent one in her stomach.
At this point and time, they have more questions than answers. There are more tests to come and hopefully answers to follow. With recent events, my friends have been missing work and losing income with added expenses.
