The Virginia Battle Buddies Hiking Club unites military, veterans, and local civilian hikers to build community and comaradery, and to share leadership lessons across the military and civilian sub-cultures. We are, essentially, an adult scouting organization that is community service oriented.
Funds are needed to ensure major club events can be run with appropriate equipment, medical personnel, and other associated costs covered without the individual members incurring excessive expense. They are also helpful in supporting efforts to recruit new members and provide greater outdoor opportunities for existing members.
I'm the administrative officer for the club, and am responsible for collecting and handling the clubs funds. I maintain receipts of any purchases made on behalf of the club for audit purposes.
While we currently operate legally as a non-profit unincorporated association, we need to raise approximately 5,000 dollars to incorporate as a 501C3 non-profit.
Additional funds raised through this fundraiser will be spent on the following, though not necessarily in the order below:
-Medical supplies for both classes and back country travel. We intend to offer free medical training for the local community through qualified instructors, and also participate in the same training ourselves.
-Radio equipment and classes to qualify club members as ARRL Emergency Communications Volunteers. (One of our club members has already provided an incredible service to our country as an emergency radio operator who went to Puerto Rico as a FEMA volunteer, where he provided much needed communications assistance after their recent hurricane!)
-Training with the Professional Trailbuilders Association: We would like to put members through training on wildland trail construction and maintenance- so we can give back and help others enjoy the outdoors. We are, first and foremost, a hiking club after all!
-Training to qualify members of the club to perform duties as volunteer wildland fire fighters.
-Printed literature detailing our club and its activities to assist in recruiting new members.
-Equipment to support and maintain the above qualifications.
-Other similar training opportunities in the future.
