My mom passed away in 2011 and I took on the responsibility of the home, that was built by Habitat for Humanity for my family in 1992. She always said that the house needed to stay in our family and I have tried so hard to maintain that promise.
It's been hard since I am a single parent with only 1 income. I have made payments of $1000 on the property taxes every year but wasn't aware that wasn't the full amount that was owed. Over the past 8 years, the remainder has accrued unbeknownst to me. I got a notice from the city that I need to pay $1800 by May 15th to stop my house from going to foreclosure. I live from paycheck to paycheck and work at the CHAS Clinic as an MA. I haven't shared this because I have been too ashamed but I am asking in desperation right now. I have been sick with stress for a week now.
I have nightmares that all my moms hard work and legacy will be taken away from me. I grew up in this house. My daughter gets to grow up in it and we are reminded how hard my mom worked to provide this home for us before she unexpectedly passed away. My adoptive dad, Alfredo LLamedo has fought hard for those less fortunate, but unfortunately he is facing the end of his life and isn't in a position where he is able to help me. The house is our home and my mom lives on through it. We feel her presence in every room and I don't believe I can handle losing it, especially since the city did not make me aware from the beginning that I wasn't paying enough in taxes.
So I am asking, if you have any money you can contribute so that Gabriella and I do not lose our family home I would really appreciate it. I have until May 15th to come up with $1828.00, or the city will start foreclosure proceedings.
Even if you cannot donate, please share and maybe someone you know could help us.
