Nazar Burning Man Honoraria 2023

We are a collective of misfits from the BIPOC community – International burners, Immigrants, and Refugees, who met while building a 2022 honoraria installation and its support camp. We need donations to match the $10K grant, to bring our multicultural electro-mechanical lens to the playa in 2023. The Art Installation Envisioning something that combined our expertise – as an installation artist, a healthcare innovator, a roboticist, and a cinematographer – Nazar, visibility, is what we had always wanted, and Nazar, vision, is what we had to offer. Our disembodied eyeball provides awareness and attention to the people of the playa – It looks at you, follows as you walk around it. Watches after you, and beyond you. To another you. • The main structure is an 8ft geodesic, covered in canvas - clad with glowing red veins to form the optic nerve. • The iris is created by an array of LEDs • The sphere rotates on a motor secured to the playa • Proximity sensors detect viewers' positions and trigger the iris and the eyeball • The eye responds to approaching viewers by rotating toward them and dilating its pupil Budget The Art Installation will cost $20,000 to build, test, and bring to the playa. $10,000 we received from the Burning Man Org as an honoraria recipient. We need $10,000 more to realize this vision — this will go towards sourcing the mechatronics, and shipping of the project. We're seeking $11,000 to sustain our vision -- To build shade structures, insulated hexayurts, evap coolers, and other essential camp-infra support upto 25 new international burners of color, year after year. The structural build is being fabricated in India - Updates The mechatronics will be tested in Salt Lake City Theme Camp We're forming a BRC camp around our vision, to bring awareness to the oppression within. And visibility for our authentic selves to fight the oppression outside.
