Hayden and Nick's Top Surgery Fund

In July of 2013 Nick and Hayden met for the first time in Monmouth College's SOfIA program for creative writing. At the time, both of us didn't know we were transgender or knew anything about transgender people. Both of us identified as awkward females, because we didn't know we could fit under any other category or that we had the opportunity to live the lives as males that we always dreamed of.
Now, in 2016 we have been friends for three years and have formed a brotherhood that we could have never imagined. Nick came out as ftm transgender on May 23rd on facebook and helped Hayden to better understand what all his sudden questions about his own gender meant. On July 22nd, 2015 Hayden came out on facebook with his own video and finally we felt like we could be ourselves for the first time in our lives. We fought in July and August for gender-neutral housing at Monmouth College and obtained a single room in the apartment buildings that can house four students and Hayden became the first transgender RA at Monmouth College.
We also helped the college create a preferred name sheet for students to fill out so that unofficial records, emails, school IDs, etc. can reflect the name they prefer. We are also working with administration to impliment some gender-neutral housing in various buildings on campus.
Nick as of February hit 7 months on testosterone, and Hayden reached 3 months on testosterone. Our physical transition is well on its way and we have been thinking about when and by whom we want to get top surgery. We have decided that we would prefer to have our top surgery done by Dr. Garramone in Florida who is widely known for his work for ftm trans top surgeries. Each top surgery by him is approximately $7,800. Since Nick and I have been transitioning together and through our formed friendship and brotherhood over the last three years we old find it logical that we get top surgery around the same time, and so why not fundraise together? For both of our top surgeries it will cost approximately $15,600. We are asking for $20,000 total in this fund to help cover the hotel room we will need for the week of recovery and also travel and food costs. Any left over funds we will use to legally change our names and aquire all the necessary new forms of identification afterwards (birth certificate, license, social security card, etc.). Any money left over after that will be donated toward someone else's top surgery fund.
