Nawang Lobsang Memorial

Nawang Lobsang was a long-time member of the Bread Alone family. He passed away suddenly in early December.

Lobsang worked with Bread Alone for more than a decade. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Lobsang delivered breads and pastries to our Union Square market location, served customers throughout the day, and then returned supplies to our warehouse.

On Saturday and Sunday, Lobsang jumped around NYC and Brooklyn, dropping off multiple market set-ups in the morning and picking them up after the day of selling.

Lobsang was a customer favorite. He was quick with his big smile, and consistent with his enthusiasm for feeding and pleasing his customers.

Lobsang was a spiritual man, dedicated to his family and to kindness in his daily actions. We believe that selling organic bread complimented the warmth and generosity fundamental to his nature.

Over the years Lobsang helped bring bread to countless customers; hundreds of thousands, if not millions. His mark on Bread Alone is indelible. He will forever represent a kindness and dedication that we strive to replicate in our own lives.

Lobsang is survived by his wife, Namgyal Chokyi, and two daughters. Funds from the campaign will go directly to supporting his family, and Bread Alone Bakery will match the first $10,000 in donations.

We deeply mourn Lobsang’s passing and will forever draw inspiration from our time with him.
