2023-2024 NAU Formula SAE

BACKGROUND:

Formula SAE is a student-run project that involves designing, building, testing, and racing a small open wheel race car. FSAE competition occurs yearly, and students compete against collegiate teams from around the country in a variety of competition events. NAU’s Formula SAE team is a first-year team and aims to enter competition in Spring 2024. Design has been progressing over the last year, and the team has entered the build phase.

The FSAE is a once-in-a-lifetime, hands-on engineering experience that gives students an opportunity to apply their knowledge into practice. Our members learn engineering, fabrication, and organizational skills that directly apply to industry. Participating in this competition will enable our members to learn new skills, put them into practice and network with key automotive partners to propel them into their careers following graduation.

TEAM AND GOALS:

Our team is organized into specialized sub-teams, each dedicated to distinct vehicle subsystems, such as chassis, suspension, and drivetrain. Comprising 12 core members, our project benefits from the collaboration and coordination of these sub-teams, as they collectively integrate and test their respective designs. Looking ahead, our ultimate goal is to have a running and driving car by the end of March this year. Having

achieved a full car design in CAD and progress on fabrication, we believe we have a solid chance at competition this year.
