Native Reads - Minneapolis
Donation protected
As middle school teachers, we are constantly striving to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment for our students. After an enriching professional development this fall, we decided that one of the ways we can achieve this is by introducing a 7th grade reading project designed around modern and historic Native American young adult novels. These novels not only provide captivating stories but also serve as a valuable window into the rich and diverse cultures of Native American communities. By incorporating such literature, we aim to promote cultural understanding, empathy, and critical thinking among our students. We are asking for donations to allow us to purchase these titles from native-owned Birchbark Books, here in Minneapolis. Together, we can provide our students with the opportunity to explore the stories and experiences of Native American authors, fostering a more inclusive and informed learning environment. Thank you for your consideration and ongoing support in enriching the education of our middle schoolers!
