Native American Food Truck

Donation protected

Hello, first I want to thank you for your time and this opportunity. My name is James Kailahi Co-Founder of Saya’s Frybread & Indian Tacos, and with your help my wife Medina and I will be opening the first Native American food truck here in Santa Fe, NM! During my 6 yrs of experience in the food & beverage industry here and as an indigenous memeber myself, the question always came to mind “Why is there Not One Native American restaurant?”  My journey to answer this question started in 2014 as a dishwasher. It was my first job in a restaurant and after a few months in, a line cook position needed to be filled. The Chef acknowledged my hard efficient work ethic and asked me if I wanted to “take a shot” on the line.  A new passion was born. I adapted quickly and continued to cook under his wing for 2 years while learning vital information about industry. I carried on to a few other restaurants thus  adding a couple more years to my cooking experience. In 2018 I made a big shift and took a “shot” at serving tables.  Yet Another passion was born That I loved even more, because i was able to connect and serve the people directly!

Santa Fe, NM is surrounded with over 500 restaurants and food establishments that offer Many Great foods from all over the world. It is also Surrounded and Home to 19 Pueblo Indian Reservations, Native American art, culture and community, yet NOT ONE  Native American restaurant or food establishment? Frybread and Indian tacos have been a traditional favorite throughout all Indian reservations in America. It is also a local favorite, but unfortunately only available 2-3 times a year during a few art shows. Why not year round or seasonal at least? Welp, not for long! Frybread and Indian tacos have also been A life long tradition in both mine and my wife’s family's. Over the years we have been able to create the finest frybread and and chili by incorporating both family’s traditions into One. We have been serving family and friends for some years, and now it’s time to share with the world. Not only will I have the opportunity to provide and Start a small family business, but possibly be an inspiration to many, then ultimately reach a position to help many more as I have been helped! I’ve been researching every move and working hard at this process for the last few months and have come along way farther than planned, because of Gracious help from family, friends, and a  power bigger than me. We are almost there and with your help we can complete the mission and resolution!

I’m Hoping to raise funds for start-up business cost. I will be using the funds raised to help purchase start-up inventory and the following equipment:
