I am embarking on a national unity tour, driving from Bend, Oregon to Washington, DC for the 4th of July in an old RV I bought just for this purpose.
Why are you doing this?
The division in the USA between politics and wealth inequality has gotten extreme, and I felt called to see what one person can do to give hope that civil conversation and understanding are possible, even with real differences in opinion. I have my views and am happy to share them, but I am more interested in others and how they came to them.
Who is traveling on this journey?
This project starts with me alone, a rolling message board that I’ve spent the last year preparing, and Dash—my trusted feline adviser. Dash sees the world clearly through one eye, has a big heart, and will be happy to accept treats from anyone. I’ve taken time off work and invested my own money to make this journey happen, but for it to succeed, I need help.
Why support this instead of a million other GoFundMe's?
Your support will help cover travel expenses, fuel, RV repairs, website and social media management, and eventually hiring an employee. I plan to stop in small cities and towns to talk with people for understanding, and produce videos, podcasts, and blogs to share these conversations. This journey is not just about me—it’s about connecting with others and showing that unity is possible through a basic shared reality that is up to us to forge with one another. I am transparent about what I hope to achieve, and I hope that my personal evolution through this process will build trust with those I encounter. I am not beholden to anyone.
Why are you doing this now?
Originally, my plan for my 60th year was to enjoy global travel and pure enjoyment, but I felt called to dedicate myself to this project instead. Through your support, you can participate in this great American experiment on its 250th anniversary and make those who put it all on the line proud that we are still here and fighting for a better tomorrow for everyone. I invite you to help make this journey possible during this special time. Your support means the world to me and to those who believe in the power of civil conversation and understanding. Together, we can show that hope and unity are still within reach.
Our forefathers never said this would be easy, but we are Americans.
We do hard things.
