Nathans Recovery and support
Donation protected
On the 10th of January 2023, I received news that would permanently affect my life and my family’s as well. That morning I waved my grandson, Nathan Samuel Chavez, off as he rode enroute to the physical therapy center he’d visit every week.
When Nathan had been born, he had come out feet first and suffered a detrimental loss of oxygen to the brain provoking what is known to be cerebral palsy. This had stunted his development in the areas of speech, walking, and other regular bodily functions. Despite having such a traumatic birthing experience and doctors who believed he wouldn’t survive for long, Nathan spent three months in an intensive care unit in Colorado before being sent home. Not long after he had fallen into my care, his grandmother, due to the mother suffering from postpartum depression that sadly she never recovered from. Nathan had managed to defeat all odds and with god’s love live on for three more years and five months.
On the 10th of January, nurses came to escort my grandson to his usual therapy center, and all had gone as per usual. He had competed his rounds of physical therapy, ate well, played, and then it had been time for him to come home. That day the nurse had left the bus unattended as she dropped of a patient before Nathan and when she came back, she had noticed that Nathan had become cyanotic. The doctors have yet to provide a clear reasoning as to why this had occurred since no one had been watching Nathan at the time leading up to his cyanotic state. The nurse then began performing CPR on Nathan in hopes of reviving him while an ambulance had been on its way. He arrived at Hospital Broward Coral Springs where the staff attempted CPR for another ten minutes until Nathan began to breathe again. They intubated him and hours later moved him to Broward Health Center’s PICU where he is currently receiving treatment. He is currently in a vegetative state, breathing through a tracheostomy tube, and receiving nutrients through a G-tube.
It has been a month and nine days since has been admitted into the PICU and the doctors believe he should be sent home next week with all equipment and care necessary. This brings many consequences as I have to find an apartment with two bedrooms urgently. Nathan will require a room just for himself due to all of his medical equipment. I haven’t been able to work ever since he had been admitted to the PICU and lack the financials to provide Nathan with the comforts he requires. I hope this reaches you and that you find yourself willing to help me be able to provide for Nathan for as long as God will allow. I hope that he will find recovery or that, at the barest minimum, spends his last few moments in comfort. Thank you for your time and help, I would like to share this biblical text:
