What would you give to help someone you loved? What if it were your own family who was suffering from an illness that potentially over took your life?
My sister Sandra and brother-in-law Nathan Story have been very challenged in the last 2 ½ years. Despite spending thousands of dollars on medical care for Nathan, they are still seeking an accurate diagnosis for his condition. This loving and generous couple have both endured so much pain through this process. After numerous doctor appointments Nathan has not found a resolution nor cure for what has been happening. The exhausting medical appointments and travel expenses have taken their toll.
Nathan was rushed to the hospital in November 2015 after passing out in their living room and was originally diagnosed with Tumefactive Multiple Sclerosis. Despite the treatment and medications that were given in 2016 he suffered seven relapses and was hospitalized for numerous days with every relapse. The MS seemed to be very aggressive despite medication. In September of 2016 his doctor ordered a brain biopsy and again put him on medication. With very little results and battling fatigue and forgetfulness in 2017 he had a Second Brain Biopsy and was put on chemo for a year, but still suffered two more relapses. With little results and no answers from the doctor as to why he was continuing to go through numerous relapses they felt it was time to seek other medical attention. Their case was accepted this year (2018) at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Nathan and Sandra have been at the Mayo clinic for the last week and a half. He has had numerous tests and had to undergo another Brain Biopsy. We are all praying that we will have a proper diagnosis and hope that medication will help him get better. However, they do not have a time of release and he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He is unable to fulfill his obligations as an engineer and since he needs 24/7 medical care Sandra has taken the time off to take care of Nathan. Nathan will need extensive therapy to repair damage to his body and will need all the support he can get.
This has been very hard for Nathan and Sandra and it saddens me to watch two people struggle with this pain and uncertainty of what lies ahead for the both of them. They have both worked very hard in society to do everything to prepare for emergencies, but as we all know you can have stock, bonuses and a savings, but if it isn't replenished it eventually runs out.
Your support and generosity would be greatly appreciated. They are both very strong and determined to exhaust everything they have for Nathan's Care.
