It was then life changed...
About a month ago Nathan felt pain in his side and back, thinking he had just pulled a muscle he went to the doctor to get it checked out. Little did we know that this trip to the doctor would change our lives forever.
It was then that I received a call from Nathan telling me that he had been diagnosed with Cancer.
All at once your life changes, you never in a million years think that you or a loved one will ever be diagnosed with Cancer. Everything changes so rapidly, from doctors’ appointments to treatments, therapies, surgeries, you name it. Whatever it takes to keep you and/or your person alive YOU DO.
For Nathan, he has been diagnosed with HCC Liver Cancer. With this particular Cancer there are a few different treatments available along with surgical resection to a portion of the liver. We have chosen one of the treatment methods - a clinical trial that has been introduced very recently. Also, to go through with the surgical resection to remove part of his liver. With this treatment he will be required to travel to Houston once every 2 weeks for it to be administered until he has his surgery. After his surgery he will continue the clinical treatment.
The thing with this particular Cancer is that treatment is not a guarantee due to the malignant cells regenerating after being removed. All we can do is HOPE that this will work...we must hope!
Being told that your best friend, the one you plan to spend your life with, your Person has a survival rate, a percentage of life that could be taken too soon, is the most heart-breaking sentence that could ever be spoken. I refuse to accept that. We are going to do whatever it takes, whatever is necessary...because Living is the ONLY option!
When it comes to medical treatments, therapies, surgeries it is exhausting in every sense of the word. Nathan must focus on surviving and that is all. No other stressors such as the financial costs, getting to and from treatment. He must only survive so years from now we can look back and say he fought like hell and Survived!
With the two methods that we have chosen it will cost $10,000 upfront. I am hoping to raise enough money to take the financial stress away from him. It is my job to be the positive light that leads the way. Hearing the fear in his voice and seeing the devastation on his face of not knowing how he is going to do it is not something you let your loved ones go through.
I promised Nathan the day he was diagnosed that I would never give up nor would I ever let him give up. I intend to keep that promise no matter what. Because when you find your soul mate you make them a priority, and you take their pain away and carry it for them.
This is Nathan's Fight and he will Survive...because Living is the ONLY option!
