Nathan Miller's Medical Expenses

Nathan Update Day 19 The decision has been made. He WILL be discharged from RIM on Friday (22 days post accident). He is so lucky to be going home let alone walking, talking, and for the most part thinking clearly. Everyone keeps telling me he is a miracle. Today he was cleared to walk on uneven ground with someone. Just because he comes home doesn’t mean he is ready to resume life as he knew it before. He has many doctors and rehab appointments in his future. He will have attendant care which mean someone has to be with him 24/7 he cannot be left alone. He will have follow up visits with: 1. Orthopedic trauma for clavicle fracture 2. ENT for facial fracture and hearing test 3. Neurosurgery for C5 & T3 fractures and head injuries 4. Neurology for ongoing treatment 5. Dentist for chipped teeth 6. Orthodontist to confirm permanent retainers are still ok 7. Physical medicine/Rehab physician 8. Neurophysiologist 9. OT 10. PT 11. Speech I was told today that he will have some testing done every couple months to determine cognitive abilities. When the time comes around 4-6 months from accident he will have to have a reaction time test and a special driving test done to determine if he can be cleared to drive again. Tomorrow we will learn about his return to school situation. He constantly ask questions about marking up his homework and he wants to return. He’s worried about being a super senior. Please be patient with him and I’m sure he is going to get agitated and irritated as he starts to feel better but can’t do all the things he wants to do. Nathan we all love you and are happy you are here. Please learn things will get back to normal but it will be a slow process. Something that I haven’t shared yet that still bothers me daily. Being in the medical field I understand how close he was to death and how lucky we are to have him here. I’ll never be able repay everyone who was by his side that day Update!!! As a week passes Nathan is making amazing progress physically, the doctors are even stunned. He stood up for two minutes although he was very dizzy. He finally passed both swallowing test and was able to eat solid food. He will possibly be moved into a regular room from the ICU unit by the weekend. His cognitive abilities are still being evaluated along with the type of therapy he will need. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. On Thursday September 24th, Nathan Miller, 16 of Casco Township, was in a terrible car accident which left him with a small brain bleed, C5 fracture, T3 fracture, clavicle fracture, a large laceration on the head (degloving), minor cuts on his arms, a skull fracture, and a fractured orbital. Nathan is currently in the ICU and will be until they transfer him to a traumatic brain injury rehab center. Everything is up in the air right now with his frontal lobe trauma and nobody knows what the long term effects will be. Nathan played varsity football since his sophomore year for the Marine City Mariners, travel lacrosse for the Army Ants, and hoped to follow in his family’s footsteps by enlisting in the Marines. He is trying very hard to push through this nightmare but this will be a long process that will take 6 months to a year for him to fully heal. Anything that you wish to give will go towards Nathan's medical bills and family expenses. Please spread the word to help out the Morrison family! Created by Lauren and Nicole Hart
