Nathan finished 13th at the 2018 USA Marathon Championships in December, clocking a time of 2:14:33. This " A" standard time qualifies Nathan for the USA Marathon Olympic trials on Feb 29th 2020, in Atlanta GA. Nathan qualified with a "B" standard in 2016 with a time of 2:15:46. Nathan went into the 2016 Olympic trials seeded 37th and finished 23rd. Nathan gained valuable experience and continues to make improvements at this distance.
Nathan recently finished 2nd in the Crim 10mile with a time of 46:56 (4:42 pace) and also finished 2nd in the USA 20k Championships with time of 59:32 (4:47 pace) He finished ahead of top US distance runners and clocked elite level times. Nathan has made a big jump in his key threshold markers making it possible for him to seriously shoot to contend in the Olympic trials. He is not the same runner after this past training cycle.
Nathan currently resides in Jackson MI where he works as a full time substitute teacher. Nathan is invested in helping other runners reach their dreams and potential by serving as the assistant XC coach at Jackson HS and assistant Track & Field Coach at Northwest.
Nathan does not have a sponsor. We are hoping to to raise support to assist him with his journey to prepare and be ready for the 2020 Olympic trials race. We were hoping to raise support for the following:
1) Travel to 1-3 races pending funds. We would like to send him to the USA XC club championships in December. The second race we have targeted is the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in January. It falls at the start of his specific period, would be in warmer temps and is an amazing field. We would like to see a sub 1:03:00 time coming out of the special period. This race fits perfect into that progression.
2) The final 8 weeks of marathon build up would be race specific pace workouts. However, they fall during the worst time of year in MI. Dealing with snow, ice and cold temps would make the quality of these sub par. We were hoping to travel 5-6 hours south reaching KY where we can get milder temps, free from snow and get hills. We would leave on Friday after work and stay in a hotel, workout Saturday and then travel home for 6-7 weekend training sessions.
3) Trip to preview the course. It has been talked about by many elites who have visited the course due to how hilly it is. It would be a huge benefit to run the course before the serious part of his training to mimic the course on some key specific marathon prep workouts.
Thank you for considering to help Nathan in his preparations for the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. It has always been a TEAM effort for Nathan to reach the heights he has.
