Hi, im Amanda.

Nathan James Scanlon, at the age of 17, passed Tuesday August 8, 2023 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston surrounded by his loving family, friends and his beloved dog Ruby, after fighting a 6 year battle with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. He was born in Methuen, MA January 14, 2006. He was a long time resident of Haverhill and North Andover Massachusetts, where he touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Nathan is survived by both his parents, Kevin and Amanda Scanlon, both from North Andover; His maternal grandparents, Stephen Derby and the late Mary Holland-Derby from North Andover. As well as his paternal grandparents Thomas and Christine Scanlon, from Sutton, Massachusetts, and his paternal great grandmother, Stella Bailey of Whitinsville, MA. He also leaves behind, His aunt, Jennifer Spearman, uncle Ty Spearman and cousins Kaileigh and Tyler Spearman, of Pensacola, FL, his uncle and godfather, Mark Scanlon of Brockton, MA, and his uncle, Christopher Stanhope of Springfield, MA. As well as his extended Scanlon family, The Labossiere and Domey family, the Kosciak family, the Belisle family, the Derby and Holland family, the Velten family, and a host of many friends.

Nathan attended elementary school at Tilton, in Haverhill MA. He then went on to attend school in North Andover, MA where he was apart of their wrestling team. Nathan loved anything to do with animals. He especially loved his dogs, Ruby, and Gizmo, and a plethora of reptiles and birds. He even learned how to breed Geckos. He spent many long days and hours with his Mom volunteering at New England Reptile Distributors/Zoo Creatures of Plaistow, NH with his mentors, Tim Velten, Kevin McCurley and Dan Bilido. From these experiences Nathan gained an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge on animals that he would freely offer up whenever asked. Nathan also loved to go camping, shooting, hiking, climbing and canoeing during the summers while attending Boy Scout camp in Mahwah NJ, where he was known for having "The best shot" in camp. He also enjoyed taking trips into Manhattan to explore the city, eat lots of soup dumplings, order ridiculous large desserts at the "Sugar Factory" and spend time behind the scenes with his NBC family at 30 Rockefeller Center. In addition, he loved listening to an array of music, watching scary movies and hanging out with his friends; Miguel, Matt, Grace, Kyle, AJ and PJ. Along with his cousins Evan, Kaileigh, Alison, Megan, Bob, Jackie, Michelle and Monica. He loved all things thrilling; and to make people laugh and gasp with his dark humor and quick wit. Nathan had the best smile and always wore it well, even in times of distress. He loved building Lego sets, especially with Chris Swan and his Dad. He was also very creative, as he loved to draw and make amazing spray paint art from his own imagination. With long-term dreams to live in California one day.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday August 11, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA 01845. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. The burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Waverly Rd in North Andover, MA. Followed by a celebration of life meal at the VFW on Park St in North Andover, MA.

In lieu of flowers, we would love to have everyone bring or send to the Conte Funeral Home a stuffed animal, toy, puzzle, or game that we will be donating to the Pediatric Oncology Department at MGH in Boston, where Nathan received the majority of his care by Dr. David Ebb and his incredible team.

The funds raised will help with the costs myself and his father have accrued. Our insurance doesn't cover all of the cost and I would like raise this money so it doesn't leave us with nothing.
