Nathan and Amanda Scanlon Cancer Assistance Fund

Hello... My name is Kevin Scanlon, and I am raising money for my son Nathan Scanlon, and his mother Amanda Scanlon who are both in a battle for their lives against Cancer. As of today, Nathan is undergoing treatment for a second time with Medulloblastoma, which is a Childhood Brain Cancer that effects him and about 250 to 500 children every year. Nathan was first diagnosed in 2017 at the age of 11 with a racquetball size tumor in the back of his brain near the cerebellum. As a result, Nathan went through a 10 hour Emergency Brain Surgery to remove said tumor. Followed up by recovery, then 6 weeks of Radiation treatments to his brain and spine, and finally one year's worth of intravenous chemotherapy.

We thought in 2018 that Nathan had been completely cured of his cancer, until an annual MRI scan in 2020 at the age of 14 showed that Nathan's cancer had returned. This time not only was the cancer in his brain, but also up and down his spine, blocking proper flow of spinal fluid. Which in turn has caused a variety of balance and vision issues, along with a combination of constant headaches, nausea, and vomiting. This has required Nathan to on an off again use a combination of a walker and a wheelchair to get around from day to day. At this very moment Nathan is still battling against this reoccurrence of Medulloblastoma through a variety of oral, intravenous, and spinal injection chemotherapies, along with heavy doses of steriods in hopes to cure him once and for all of this horrible disease.

To make matters worse, in October of 2021 Nathan's mother Amanda Scanlon was also diagnosed with a combination of Stage 2 Breast Cancer, as well as Lymphatic Cancer, both in left side of her chest. She too has now started to undergo a series of intravenous chemotherapies for several months, which will be followed up with a full double mastectomy surgery, then 6 weeks of radiation, and possibly even more chemotherapy after all of that. Amanda's diagnosis of Cancer and the potenial year long process she will have to endure, along with Nathan's already long and sorted experiences with this terrible disease, has been devastating to say the least to the both of them. Along with all of our surrounding family and friends who have struggled to wonder why a loving mother and her son have both been struck with Cancer at the same time.

Needless to say with all of this going on, it has taken a toll on our finances through the years. Amanda works hourly, so as a result she does not get paid if she is not working. And while we have made due to this point with some help from family and close friends in regards to Nathan's treatments. Now with Amanda's recent cancer diagnosis and treatments, we have come to a crossroads where the financial impact is just too great for us. Any help that could be provided to assist with our costs of medical treatments, travel, parking, food when on the road, and just overall loss of income from lack of working would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit donated will help to reduce the stress and burdens upon Amanda and Nathan, as they both continue their ongoing battles against Cancer. We Thank You in advance, and please continue to wish, pray, and give praise for their daily courageous efforts.

Sincerely,

Kevin Scanlon
