Many of you know Nate moved home to support his sister, Amy, and her three incredible kids after they lost their husband & father in June 2024. They are now facing another unimaginable hardship.
On 11/7, Nate went into Diabetic Ketoacidosis, suffered cardiac arrest, and required 30 minutes of CPR. He was placed on a ventilator and diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury caused by lack of oxygen. His care team told us he would not recover cognitive function or be able to breathe or eat on his own.
Against all odds, Nate has begun a remarkable recovery. In just two weeks, he has gone from a dire prognosis to standing & walking short distances with PT support, having brief conversations, and cracking some good jokes.
Nate still has a long journey ahead. He will stay in rehab for 3–4 weeks and, with hope, return home to Amy’s before Christmas. He has almost no short-term memory capabilities right now, and his long-term memory is very sporadic. The majority of the time, Nate is unaware of where he is and what happened to him.
Even after returning home, Nate will require 24-hour care and intense OT/PT & Speech Therapy. Medical and long-term care costs will be significant. Please consider giving to help support Nate and Amy during this challenging time.
Note: All funds raised will be deposited directly to Nate and Amy. GoFundMe collects a card processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. I researched extensively to find another site that charges less, but these fees are standard across the board.
