As some of you may know, Natasha recently had a health scare that put her in the hospital for a little over two weeks.
Her diagnosis was a stomach infection caused by an underlying, undiagnosed thyroid condition. This caused fluid build up around major organs, specifically 100+lbs of fluid that came on rapidly. This possibly triggered a diabetes diagnosis that has changed drastically with the hospital treatment and losing the fluid build up. However, it is still a possibility and she won’t know anything definite until her at home treatment is finished and she sees her primary care doctor in mid July.
While in the hospital, the doctors were able to pull 80+lbs of fluid being retained. She was released to at home treatment when they felt major organs weren’t surrounded and the swelling in her legs decreased.
Tash is happy to be at home but the first few days have been very rough for her with a lot of anxiety, especially since she is not being monitored and is worried she may not be doing her treatment correctly. Sleeping is also hard because her body has changed a lot and very quickly, so it’s difficult to get comfortable in bed. Additionally, having to take lots of meds is stressful as well as being on supplemental oxygen because her lungs are still recovering from the fluid that was around them.
It was really hard for Tash to make her social media post to inform distant family and close friends of her situation because, as you could imagine, she was afraid and embarrassed. The only people she told were her parents, sisters and few very close friends when she was admitted. She wants to thank everyone for the words of encouragement, love and support she got when she did post. It helped her mentally a lot in the end. She honestly didn’t know if she was going to post anything, but is glad she took that chance.
She’s been out of work for over a month now because before she was admitted, she slowly had to give up shifts or battle through them very uncomfortably until it got to the point she could barely walk without being in pain. Her and Josh didn’t think it was serious during that time so she was still trying to work through any discomfort. Her husband Josh really was the person who, with all his love, got her to go to the emergency room because he was so worried. She still has a ways to recover so she is unsure when she will be able to go back to normal serving and bartending day to day. That is ultimately her goal but has had her husband and a few family members suggest she might need to look into a career change which is very scary for her and she isn’t sure where to start.
While Tash is covered under health insurance, the deductible is rather high, making this time even more difficult. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, as Tash and Josh are beyond thankful for all your love and support.
