Natasha's funeral expenses and Nina's future

On Wednesday, Jan 20, 2021, I got the most devastating news that no one wants to hear. My beautiful sister and best friend, Natasha, died suddenly and unexpectedly. She had been battling Covid since the beginning of the year but seemed to finally be on the uptrend. She also had a ruptured ear drum on Monday, thought to be from an ear infection. I last spoke to her at 0930 that morning. She told me how she was finally starting to feel better and we were talking about setting up a visit for this weekend since her quarantine was over. We have little girls that are just a few months apart and that are the best of friends. She had also quit smoking and had been cigarette free for 2 weeks. One of the last things I told her was how proud of her I was and that she was the strongest woman I know.

My sister left behind her 6yo daughter, Nina. I have temporary custody of her, and will be applying for guardianship. I have hired an estate/custody lawyer to help me sort out how to do this.

I am fundraising for three reasons. The first reason is that I would like to give my sister the best final send off. She loved life and was taken way too soon. I will be having a celebration of life for her.

The second reason is for legal fees. I do not know how long of a process it will be to gain guardianship of Nina. I have already hit a couple bumps, which is why I decided it would be best to hire a lawyer to help the process. I want what is best for Nina. I want her where she is loved and comfortable. Natasha and I discussed several times what our wishes would be if we were to die. She always said she wanted Nina to go with me. I am kicking myself now for not setting this up legally. I guess I just never really thought this would be a reality. I still can't believe this is reality.

The third reason will be to ensure Nina's future needs are met. I want to be able to set up an education fund for her. Any funds left over after funeral and legal fees will be used for this purpose.
