Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am starting a gofundme for my mother, Natalya Melnik, who had a terrible accident while exploring the PNW.
My mother was making her annual trip to the Olympic National park. While getting out of the car, she slipped on the wood barrier causing her to fall down a large hill ultimately resulting in a severe break in her leg/ankle.
My brother carried her into the car and they drove to the nearest hospital, Olympic Medical Emergency Center, where they realigned her foot to prevent further damage. The Doctor urged my mother to pursue prompt attention from Harborview Medical Center as the break was bad enough to require corrective surgery. The urgency of this situation escalated very quickly and an immediate surgery was scheduled at Harborview Medical. Due to a very recent and unforeseen change in medical insurance, Natalya was left without the proper coverage for this incident resulting in medical bills that are quickly stacking up.
The injury, surgery, and recovery have left Natalya in a state where she is unable to return to work for at least 4 months. Her main focus is to be on very strict bed rest while she recovers from the corrective surgery. As you can see from the photos, this was a very invasive procedure. She needed 13 screws and 2 plates to permanently fuse her bones together.
We have come to a point where we feel the need to reach out to friends, family and our community for financial support, if you are able. Anything helps. Since Natalya cannot work, she is struggling to make ends meet. Medical bills, home bills, groceries, car note, and other expenses are becoming harder to pay while she is not working.
My siblings and I are doing our best to continue to help our mother any chance we get. We thank you in advance for your support, thoughts and prayers!
