My sister Natalie is one of the kindest people I know. She is the type of person who will do anything to help other people. Right now she is the one in need of help.
About a year ago Natalie was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer. Shortly after the diagnosis she underwent a double mastectomy and removal of some of her lymph nodes. Doctors were confident that they got all of the cancer. Natalie soon after found out that she is a carrier for the BRCA1 gene mutation and would eventually need to have her ovaries and tubes removed as well.
Over the last year, she has undergone the strongest chemotherapy treatments available, followed by radiation treatments to make sure that all the cancer was eradicated. But she wasn't so lucky. A few weeks ago she started seeing spots in her vision and soon found out that the cancer had matastacized to her brain. Thankfully it is only one lesion. She has now undergone radio surgery on the lesion.
When the cancer was found on her brain, the doctors decided to do a CT scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis to see if the cancer had matastacized to any other part of her body. Unfortunately, it has, Natalie's liver has "several" lesions on it. And these are the largest lesions that have been found (6cm or 2.5"!), to include the original cancer. Her liver is barely functioning. She has been given 6 months to 1 year to live.
Natalie is now undergoing a new round of chemo therapy while she waits to start clinical trials at UC Davis. The chemo will hopefully slow the growth of the lesions on her liver. There is hope that the clinical trials will slow or stop the growth of the tumors.
Natalie has two regrets. The first is that she is going to lose her hair again now that it is starting to grow in nicely. The second is that she has never had the opportunity to take her son Anthony to Disneyland. We can't keep her hair from falling out, but we sure can try to help her take Anthony to Disney.
If you have it in your heart to help, every dollar counts. She has many medical bills and upcoming expenses (travelling to/from UC Davis, some overnights) on top of trying to take her son on a magical trip. She will greatly appreciate any help that comes her way.
