2020 continues to be a whirlwind of emotions, fears, prayers, anxieties, laughter, and hope. Sweet, fierce and loving Natalie Unsworth, has been diagnosed with cancer. So far, we know that this is a rare form of childhood ovarian cancer. We also know it is a TREATABLE cancer! Natalie had surgery August 21, 2020 to remove a tumor from her abdomen, which included her left ovary and Fallopian tube. In the following days of recovery, we learned the tumor was a malignant germ cell tumor. A follow up surgery took place a few days later to have a port placed for chemo. She finally got to go home after 8 days in the hospital! Chemo began September 2.
I have started this campaign to raise funds to help pay for the expenses associated with her treatments. Because her cancer is rare, her treatments will take place in Wichita but the family lives in Garden City, 4.5 hours away. This means that Jamie and Natalie will need to drive up the night before and won't be able to drive home until the night after. Larry will need to take off work to stay with the boys which means he will lose 5 weeks of pay. We've reached out to many resources but unfortunately, COVID has limited what's available. Even the Ronald McDonald house is closed! My rough estimate is that the family will have a minimum of $16,000 of out of pocket expenses. And that's best case scenario. The Unsworth family have always been the first to jump in and help others. This is our chance to show them how much we appreciate them, love them, and want to help them.
Natalie is in great spirits, healing well, and is looking forward to starting her freshman year (and first year on the golf team!) with a smile and a fight ahead of her! Prayers and good vibes are most welcome and words of encouragement are appreciated!
