A Kidney for Christopher

Christopher was born at 37 weeks gestation. Where he suffered an HIE event ...what is HIE you ask..
HIE  is a brain dysfunction caused by a reduction in the supply of oxygen to the brain and other organs (hypoxia), compounded by low blood flow to vital organs (ischemia). Encephalopathy refers to any condition that results from reduced blood and oxygen supply to the brain.

Since this is considered a brain injury, the time of the oxygen deprivation generally relates to the perinatal period, just before and just after delivery.

HIE caused by asphyxia is the leading cause of infant fatalities in the United States, as well as the primary source of severe impairments.

Due to the HIE his kidneys stopped working and he now needs a kidney transplant in order to survive..He is on dialysis which I perform at home 7 days a weeks 12 hours a night. He is on peritoneal dialysis. What is peritoneal dialysis you ask.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) has been a widely accepted method of treating end stage renal disease (ESRD) since the 1980s, and it is now the most common method of home dialysis. While many dialysis patients in the United States go to a dialysis center, PD offers more flexibility by allowing patients to dialyze at home, at work or on vacation.

To perform treatments, PD uses the thin membrane, called the peritoneum, which lines the abdomen. During treatments, a cleansing fluid called dialysate is put into the patient's abdomen through a small, flexible tube called a PD catheter.

The dialysate pulls the waste and extra fluid from the patient's blood into the peritoneal cavity and stays in the abdomen for a specified amount of time. Once the dialysate is drained, the wastes and fluids are also drained, and fresh dialysate is replaced to clean the blood. This filling and draining process is called an exchange because the dialysate that has been in the abdomen is being exchanged for new, fresh dialysate.

I am a single mother doing all my son's care by myself. I live at home with family to help out with his expenses but they are  getting  overbearing and out of control. We thought he would have had his transplant by now after being on the transplant list for over a year. But no luck.  So please if you can find it in your heart to donate to my son my family and I would appreciate it, and of course so would he in the long run.
Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
Thanks for taking the time to read about my son condition. May God bless you today and always. XoXo
