Narcosis - A Low-Budget Horror Film

Donation protected
EDIT: We are absolutely pleased as punch to announce that we have almost made our original goal of $5000, and we want to thank each and every person who kindly helped us in reaching it. We've raised the limit--since we don't foresee any other major expenses, our money now is mainly going to feeding our lovely actors and crew, and hopefully giving everyone who worked on the project a stipend to thank them for their time and energy.

Hey friends, family, and everyone in between!

My name is Abbey, and I graduated with a degree in Visual and Dramatic Arts from Rice University in 2019. My dear friend Celeste just graduated from Oberlin College’s film program in 2020. We are friends, roommates, and we have a Big Plan for this summer: make a movie!

Here’s our pitch:

After a group of codependent friends carelessly rush through a protection ceremony, their fun ayahuasca trip turns into a drug-fueled nightmare where they must battle both inner demons and the kind of demons that physically possess them. We’re going for the acerbic wit of HBO’s Search Party mixed with the fun camp of the Evil Dead films.

We’re keeping our project small. One house, six actors, and only a few gallons of fake blood. That being said, making a film with anywhere near the production value expected of indie filmmakers is still prohibitively expensive, which is why we’re asking you for any change you can spare to help us make this goal a reality. All named donors will be given a special thanks in the film's credits.

We need about $5000 to make this happen, including, but not at all limited to:

$1810 - For equipment rentals (lights, a camera, and the proper sound mixing equipment)
$500 - To feed our actors homemade meals and takeout for our 10 days of production
$195 - To clothe our actors
$60 - Trauma makeup, so people don’t actually have to beat each other up
$45 - A prop knife, to be used for violence (we have to kill these people off somehow)

We are hoping to use this film to get new creative voices out into the world, giving us, as well as our creative team, our actors, and our crew the chance to showcase their talent.

We want to have fun. We want everyone involved to be proud of the work they’ve done and use our film to promote themselves as artists. But mainly, since we already threw all our stuff in a car, drove over 1000 miles, and committed ourselves to the Pursuit Of Art, we want to do the thing that we came out to Los Angeles to do.

We are hoping to be finished editing this film by the end of the year, which will put us in a good position to send our finished project to festivals in 2022.

To our dear friends from high school and college who might see this: just know that we could be asking you to join our downline in the latest Multi-level marketing scam, so you can at least be thankful for that.

But in all seriousness, we thank you so much for your support of this project with whatever funds you can spare. We love you.

- Abbey and Celeste
