Navigate: To guide someone through difficulties with determination and success.
Naomi Greenwood is a sweet, positive eleven year old girl who had just finished fifth grade at Riverside Intermediate School in Plymouth and enjoying her summer break. She was involved in a car accident on June 16th, 2019 in Plymouth, Indiana, along with several family members. Naomi’s injuries sustained from the accident include traumatic brain injury, broken femur, broken collarbone, massive hernia and a ruptured kidney.
Naomi was sent to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and spent three weeks in the Pediatric Intensive Care before being rushed to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for complications. She has had five surgeries so far, along with two planned in the future for her femur and kidney. Naomi’s treatment after her future discharge from the hospital will be 6-12 months in a rehabilitation center, which will be in Indianapolis.
All funds raised will go to Naomi’s mother, Susi, to help her through this difficult time. Susi is a fantastic mother of two girls, Mia and Naomi. Susi moved her small family from
Florida to Indiana several years ago to care for her parents. Susi’s father was also in the accident and suffered from a broken neck. He was recently released from rehab to return home and worried about Naomi as she received the worst of the injuries.
Susi will be living in Indianapolis throughout Naomi’s medical care, while making some trips home to see Mia. Naomi’s needs for the future will be long-term rehabilitation, equipment to help her be mobile while she is healing, prescriptions and doctor visits with her specialists.
Starting Naomi’s Navigators means so much to me as Naomi is like a second daughter to my husband and I. Naomi and my daughter, Emma, met in elementary and were best friends immediately. She is able to light up a room by her presence and a guru when it comes to making slime. She loves school, where she is an honor roll student and plays on the basketball team. Naomi is amazing and able to find the bright side of any situation.
Naomi needs her mother, Suzi, and sister, Mia, more than ever and the least I can do is try to help ensure they have the things needed to bring Naomi home. It will be a long, tough road, but know it possible with a community of family and friends for this beautiful girl.
