Hi, my name is Nan, I live in the Chicago area and I’m trying to raise money to help with my overwhelming medical and moving expenses.

UPDATE: 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic leukemia. The cancer was slow growing until last week when my oncologist found that my white blood count has tripled in 6 months. This means I have to start aggressive daily treatments with chemo drugs as I battle fatigue.

For 30 years I suffered from debilitating stomach issues which led to my having to get a colostomy ( a surgery that created an opening for my colon through my abdomen). The surgery was supposed to give me a 2nd chance at life. Instead, I’ve been having horrific pain complications from the surgery, unable to eat much, and having lost 35 pounds. I am almost 75, living on a very limited income, with no family, and medicare is paying for only a ¼ of the monthly supplies that I have to keep ordering every week because of the complications.

On top of all the medical problems, I was notified that my lease would not be renewed as of April 30th (I did get a 2-month extension with help from Open Communities as reasonable accommodations for a displaced senior with disabilities) at the apartment building I've lived at for 10 years We have new owners who are forcing all tenants to vacate when their lease ends so they can renovate and then charge $500 more a month.

There are very few affordable housing units available anywhere– I’ve been on affordable waitlists in Chicago and the northern suburbs since 2018.

Funds raised will go towards:

Medical and dental expenses and consultations not covered by insurance

- Out-of-pocket secondary insurance premiums for Medicare supplement - $350/mo

- Transportation to specialists - $200/mo

- Dental expenses including surgery - $8,000 - no dental insurance

Counseling for severe depression caused by complications from surgery not covered by Medicare

- $800 month

Moving expenses forced to move by June 30 - new owners, displacing a senior with major medical issues.

- Approximately $1500 for movers

- Security Deposit - $1600

I know there are many needs out there, homelessness, hunger, and injustices and I'm working with my local faith-based community but I have a personal situation that requires help as well. Thanks so much for anything people can donate. It is so much appreciated.
