Nanning ‘Oi Primary School charity trip
Donation protected
Hi my name is Logan, I am a level 3 year 2 Animal Management student at Plumpton College and have just been offered a place to do Degree Level Veterinary Nursing at the College.
Myself and a small group of students have been selected to work with the charity in Kenya this June. We will be volunteering at an all girl boarding primary school. This school is located in the South-Western Kenya area near the Maasai Mara National Park. The girls at Nanning ‘Oi Primary School are between the age of 4 and 16. The girls are survivors of FGM and child marriage. This school is a haven, providing safety and stability. Many of the girls have suffered and endured things which we can never imagine. Nanning ‘Oi Primary School provides opportunities that would not otherwise be possible. This is why I have chosen to take part in supporting the project and help in any way I can.
As part of this project we will be taking hygiene products with us for the students, this includes: toothbrushes, reusable sanitary products, toothpaste, soap bars, etc. Due to cost and lack of adequate facilities, supplies run short in some areas, making it incredibly important to be able to provide these necessities to maintain their health and wellbeing. Along with entertainment such as toys, board games and card games.
This year we will also be assisting with planting a 1 ace Kitchen garden for Nanning ‘Oi primary school. This garden will be for growing food for the girls at the school, so they have access to their own fruit and vegetables which they will be maintaining. This will be an amazing way for the students to learn essential life skills and help with mental health and wellbeing.
The girls at Nanning ‘Oi Primary School are currently washing their clothes and hands in plastic buckets on the floor. Which is why we will also be building an outside washing station, this will include sinks and a drying area. This will allow the girls to wash their clothes and hands in a clean station.
I feel so very lucky to have this opportunity and really hope I can be of some service to young people who have experienced such trauma.
I have worked hard to cover most of the cost of the trip. I’m now hoping I can ask for some help to cover the last part of the trip costs and enough to donate some cold hard cash to the school.
If you are in a position to help me and this amazing school I will be so very grateful.
Thank you for reading.
