Nani's Mystery Condition

Donation protected
UPDATE OCT. 2
After a visit with a new vet, we were referred to an Internal Medicine Specialist out in Fort Worth in May 2023 who we’ve been with since. Since then, they’ve performed test after test and revisited some possible diagnoses that prior vets might have missed but we’ve hit a dead end yet again. Our next step is for another endoscopy-biopsy hoping this time around we will receive answers.

The past few months, Nani has been on food that has slightly helped with her stool formation. However, it’s not consistent. She has gained about one or 2 pounds since our last posting nonetheless she is still happy and playing with the cat when she has the energy but she is severely underweight, undiagnosed, lack of energy, dry flaky skin, and trembling.

I'm here to share the story of my beloved Nani, a sweet and loving hound mix who came into our lives in August 2022. When we adopted Nani, she was shy, but with time, love, and care, she blossomed into the most friendly and affectionate dog one could ask for.

Sadly, Nani has been dealing with chronic diarrhea since we brought her home. Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to identify the diagnosis or provide effective treatment. We've taken her to several vets. They've taken fecal samples, blood work, and urinalysis and have prescribed a number of medications over the past several months. We've tried different brands of food including two RX diets and yet none of them seemed to have helped.

As a result, Nani has lost a significant amount of weight and is not able to absorb the nutrients she needs to grow and thrive. After consulting with our vet, we decided that the next step was exploratory surgery and biopsy. The surgery was completed on April 24, 2023. We received her results on May 11, 2023, which nonetheless came back normal. We are back at square one with no idea what’s going on with her. After surgery our vet suggested that it could be Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), they took her blood work to test for EPI, which also came back normal and nothing was found. As of today, she is undiagnosed, severely underweight, has no energy, has constant diarrhea, dry flaky skin, trembling, and is not full of life.

We're reaching out to you, our community, for support. Your donations could help us seek further consultations, explore alternative treatments, and give her a chance at the healthy and happy life she so rightfully deserves. We know times are tough, and there are many worthy causes out there, but we hope you'll consider donating to help Nani. She is such a loving and special dog, and we want to do everything we can to help her live a healthy and happy life.

Thank you for taking the time to read Nani's story, and for any help you can offer. Every little bit counts, and we are grateful for your kindness and generosity.
