Nancy Needs New Knees

Isaiah 40:31 New International Version (NIV)

…”but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

As many of you know, Nancy Esposito is my sister. She has been involved in missionary work in the Middle East for several years. After about 15 years of walking on foreign soil…up and down endless winding stairways on mountain edges in Lebanon, back and forth through the hilly city of Amman, through the dirt roads of Sudan, through crowded streets of Cairo and up and down stairways of apartment buildings built without elevators, Nancy’s knees are just completely worn out! She has slipped down stairways in Jordan, fallen in street-side holes in Egypt and walked too many miles toting heavy backpacks along broken sidewalks. While the periods of arthritic pain have accelerated over the past few years, it was not until Nancy came back to the States a couple of years ago that she finally visited an orthopedic surgeon and learned that both knees are bone on bone and resemble the knees of an 80 year old.

It's time for Nancy to get new knees!

Nancy's process for healing has included cortisone injections and three courses of gel injections, physical therapy, and various leg exercises, with a goal of finding a job that provides paid time off so she could have double knee replacements. All has been accomplished except the job with paid leave, but with her knees being worse than ever, she is moving forward RIGHT NOW with the goal of getting her knees operated on this summer.

It’s a bit of a vicious cycle…being in constant pain while working, but needing to work in order to be financially stable. During this operation and recovery time, she will not work and therefore have no income. Nancy has done the research and has found that she doesn't qualify for disability from Social Security, nor temporary disability assistance from Social Services. She has waited as long as she possibly can but the strain and pain are intense right now. So, now is the time to see this to fruition.

As I write to you to ask for your help with this situation, I am reminded of what Paul said in Galatians 6:2. “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” With this in mind, I am reaching out to friends and family and asking if you would pray about offering your assistance to my sister. She is in the process of scheduling surgery, but is hesitant to take this step without having funds in place to cover her living expenses for approximately three months. If, after praying about this situation, you feel led to help, please follow the instructions on the page to make a donation. I know, without a doubt, that she will be blessed by this love and support.

May God continue to bless you and your family!

With great appreciation,
