Nancy's Recovery
Donation protected
As many (if not all) know by now, my mom, dad, sister Nicole, along with her husband and 2 y/o son were all set to embark on their “Dream Vacation” to Italy. Their dream turned into a nightmare as the brakes on the vehicle they were driving malfunctioned causing them to wreck! All of them sustained injuries of some kind or another but my mother, Nancy, took the brunt of it. The injuries are extensive and will require at least two surgeries and an unknown amount of recovery time. She received several facial fractures, lost all of her bottom teeth, has a fractured vertebra, elbow, and a shattered left leg. Since the night of the accident, 4/24/18, she has been on a ventilator to assist her breathing, underwent a a tracheotomy, has a feeding tube, and is still awaiting the first surgery.
There are a number of concerns regarding the surgeries and some very delicate timing involved. For instance, if she needs to have her jaw wired, the recovery time in Italy would be increased. She can not have the leg surgery until after the facial one even though the doctors are concerned about her leg as there is bone fragment resting near her artery. This all adds to the unknown.
This whole thing is a harrowing experience in and of itself, but in a foreign country, it’s ramped up 1000%. As can be imagined, the financial need is mounting currently, and with an extended recovery stay on the horizon, we are reaching out for some financial help. My dad has bounced around to a couple of different hotels and today checked into an air b&b in the area close to the hospital. Hotel and transportation costs around the city are very expensive, (“cheap” is $200 US/ night). Simply put, the need is greater then our ability to cover it.
Anyone who knows my mom and dad know that they have lived a lifetime of generous service to others. Everyone they spend any amount of time with become “part of the family,” and I can say with 100% certainty, that they have selflessly put the needs of others above their own in every way they could, time, ability, effort, and finances. Many of you have been sending love, comforting words, and prayers, and if you know them, you know these are coveted above all else, but, right now, they need financial help as well. Let’s love on them in their time of need and take the burden off of their shoulders so the recovery can be smooth, comfortable and thorough.
Thank you all so very much!
