Nancy Walters' Road to Recovery Post Stroke

Hi, my name is Claire Donovan and I am hoping to raise funds for my sister, Nancy Walters. Last month Nancy experienced an unexpected and thus far, unexplainable medical emergency and she could use some extra love and help right now.

On Thursday, February 16th Nancy suffered a massive stroke that affected her left side. This news was completely baffling as Nancy is a healthy 35-year-old with no pre-existing conditions. Based on the magnitude of the stroke, extenuating circumstances leading up to her care, and MRI indications, it is truly miraculous she is doing so well at this point or is even alive for that matter.

We feel very blessed and are amazed at the progress she has made in just one month but her road ahead is a very long one. Nancy needs to re-learn every task she previously did with the left side of her body including everyday things we take for granted such as walking, talking, typing, and eating to name a few. She can't drive and has required someone to be with her to help her at all times. She also has Occupational and Physical therapy multiple times every week. We are forever grateful for her partner, Jon, who has been by her side taking care of her from the moment this happened. He has been awesome and is doing everything possible to aid in her recovery.

Unfortunately, it will be months before Nancy can return to work and doctors are estimating it to be a year before she is back to pre-stroke functionality. Being self-employed she has basic insurance coverage but no paid time off to take while she recovers. I'd like to enable her to focus on recovering and not be focused on trying to hurry back to work so she has a paycheck once again. To say that life has been stressful (and costly) for her recently is an understatement. Let's show Nancy she is not alone on this journey. With a village of family and friends standing behind her, I am hopeful that we can relieve some of the financial stressors that she will incur.
