Hello, My name is Nancy Darby.
In the middle of January 2017, I woke up with my chin numb and yet painful at the same time. After a couple days of this, I went to the Augusta Dental College. There was an odd looking dark mass in my lower jaw. They sceduled a biopsy. The results were disconcerting. I was diagnosed with Clear Cell Odontogenic Carcinoma. This is an extremely rare cancer as there are less then 100 known cases in the USA.
The treatment for this will be to remove 6 inches of my jawbone. From before my jaw joint on the back right side, to my canine tooth on the left side of my jaw. They will insert a metal rod to stationary the jaw but I will not have teeth in that area. They will leave this metal rod in for 8 months to a year. If the cancer has not returned by then, they will graft some of my hip bone to the metal rod and insert fake teeth into that bone graft.
As many of you know, My husband is a disabled Vietnam Vet and I am his caregiver. As a caregiver, I have not been able to afford insurance.
The hospital we are going through has many plans in place for those who are not insured and the plan we qualify for, our responcibility will be 40% of the total bill.
So I am reaching out to friends and family. And friends of the friends and family. For any help you might be able to extend us to help pay for these upcoming surgeries.
Times are tight for everyone. So anything, no matter how small is greatly appriciated. Also, passing this on to your friends, with a little blurb saying you know us is also appriciated.
And prayers and positive thoughts are also very much appriciated.
Love, Nancy and Julius Darby
