On Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, the world lost one of its brightest lights, Honorable Nancy Metayer, in an act of senseless violence. Nancy was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and dedicated public servant. Throughout her years in public office, she led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose.

In honor of her commitment to resilience, equality, and justice, family and friends of Nancy Metayer have established the Nancy Metayer Endowment, a permanent fund in her memory and in recognition of her legacy.

As a trailblazing public servant, Nancy made history as the first Black and Haitian American female Commissioner elected in Coral Springs, Florida. First elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, she was appointed in December of 2024 as Vice Mayor, a role she carried with grace, vision, and a deep commitment to the community.

Nancy's life was defined by her passion for service, environmental stewardship, inclusion, and advocacy for others. Her professional and personal mission was rooted in making sure people felt seen, heard, and valued. She believed deeply in fostering a community where everyone had a seat at the table and where every voice mattered. Her leadership extended across numerous local and national boards, reflecting a lifelong commitment to sustainability, equity, and civic life.

As a graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and Johns Hopkins University, Nancy worked as an environmental scientist to advance water quality, public health, and disaster response across Florida prior to assuming public office.

Nancy’s death comes mere months after the Metayer family buried their youngest son, Donovan. Funds raised will also provide financial relief to her immediate family as they grieve and heal from unimaginable loss.
