Hi, my name is Melvin Lendos and I'm fundraising for my daughter, Nancy.
Nancy Lendos is from Baltimore, MD and has Mitochondrial disease, which has caused her to have a very enlarged heart. This heart condition, mitochondrial cardiomyopathy, is a type of hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy.
Nancy is 22 years old and currently weighs only 70 lbs. From when she was nine years old, Nancy would have many fainting episodes at school, which became even more frequent by the time she got to college. She couldn't do any type of exercise , due to her fainting spells. Unfortunately, her condition worsened due to her condition and weak muscles, and she had to quit college to concentrate on saving her life. Her dream is to be a doctor; she would absolutely love to help others in need. Nancy had been a patient at John Hopkins, sadly, with no luck due to complicated risks of open heart surgery. She was then transferred to The Children’s hospital of Philadelphia, for five weeks. This involved many evaluations, but yet again, we have very little answers.
Nancy is currently at Duke University in Durham, NC. All medicines that were tried had no success, which in turn, means no treatment possibility. Last Friday August 12, 2022, Nancy had open heart surgery to add two pumps on both sides of her heart in order to keep her alive. Due to her being so small, at 70 lbs, and her weakened immune system, she hasn't qualified for a heart transplant; an adult heart would be too big to be considered for her small chest. Sadly, due to her delicate health, Nancy cannot be on the waiting list for a heart transplant. I work full time, and Nancy’s mother cannot work, since she is caring for our daughter. Since my daughter has been in the hospital, I have stayed by her side ,along with her mother. We've taken 12-hour rotation shifts to be able to comfort her and give her all our love and support. We are praying for a miracle to save the life of our precious daughter, and we're hoping she can get a heart transplant before it’s too late. We hope that she will be able to live a normal and healthy life and that she'll be able to make her wish of becoming a doctor come true.
I ask that you please pray for Nancy and our family during this difficult time. Any support is greatly appreciated, and no gift is too small. Thanks for your consideration; we genuinely appreciate it. I will post updates weekly as well.
