Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia- North Constituency - Ghana
“ To whom much is given, much is expected “
With the primaries fast approaching , the time has come for Richard, a son of Ghana to follow his dreams of contesting for the parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2016 elections in Ghana.
After spending the bulk of his adult years in the United States, Richard believes it’s time to go back to be a part of the solution to the many issues that are crippling his country Ghana.
A product of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, Richard served in the United States Army for over 11 years as a Staff Sergeant where he was awared the Army Meritorious Award for his outstanding leadership and performance. While in the army he was deployed to both Kuwait, in 2004 and finally to Iraq in 2009, where he supported the Operation Iraqi Freedom . Thereafter, Richard participated in a short-term project with the United Nations Disaster Recovery Program where he worked on preparing disaster recovery programs for developing countries. He is currently a partner in an Agricultural and Energy Consulting firm in Ghana.
Richard’s passion and commitment to nation building and service is evidenced by his numerous contributions to the Ghanaian community in Connecticut, USA and in Ghana. In Ghana, he has participated in the election-monitoring program to ensure that the elections were carried out in a free and fair manner. He currently serves as the director of Security for NPP in the Ashanti Region. As the Vice President of the Asantefuokuo of New England States, he spearheaded a host of projects at the Garden City Special School , a school catering to the needs of children with Down Syndrome in Kumasi, Ghana.
Richard’s vision for the Manhyia North Constituency and the country at large includes but is not limited to the following;
Access to Quality Education: Richard firmly believes that good quality education is an asset that can never be taken away from an individual. As we all know, the current state of education in the constituency needs tremendous improvement.The lack of resources for both teachers and pupils leads to an alarming decrease in school enrollment and subsequently, performance. In light of this, Richard is in the process of initiating several projects that will see to the donation of books, laptops and various school supplies to the schools in the constituency. He is also in the process of organizing quiz competitions amongst schools in the local area to encourage and increase enrollment and performance in the local schools.
Access to basic necessities: it is alarming and indeed sad to realize that most people in our country do not have access to basic necessities such as water and electricity. Richard has an extensive background in energy management through his classroom and field experience and will use these resources to work with others to promote the use of alternative means of energy to ensure that these necessities are available to all.
Admittedly, resolving the issues in Ghana is a long road that requires a concerted effort from many people and Richard does not claim to be the only solution to these issues. What he has is a servant's heart, a selfless nature and an abundance of love for his country Ghana. Richard is indeed ready to work.
Friends, let’s support our brother, classmate and coworker as he embarks on this journey to make a significant impact in the lives of the people who deserve it the most.
Thank You.
