Dear friends and family, I'm reaching out for help for my mom. My dad's health has been deteriorating and he can no longer take care of my mother. My mom has advanced dementia and needs 24 hour care. I have been helping as much as I can and recently spent that last week at their house taking care of both of them and I just can't keep going. I have used up my leave from work and my wife has been raising our two year old while also going to work. My goal is to get my mom into a care facility and focus on getting my dad better.
I started the process to get care for my mom through Medi-Cal, the free service for low income seniors. The social worker from Adult Protective Services said it will take two months before she could be placed in a care facility. That means we need to pay out of pocket for a facility for the next two months.
I was very fortunate to find a home with a bed open right now. The cost is $5,000 per month for a total of $10,000.
Between my dad and me we have $3,000. We need help making up the difference.
I'm reaching out to everyone I can to see if you can help in any amount. Please share this with anyone you know and please help. I'm sorry to be blunt but we are desperate.
The care home is called Sage Garden, here is their website.
I have been constantly on the phone with the National Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's San Diego, and the San Diego Department of Aging & Independence Services to find resources and help. They sent me a list of 30 facilities in the San Diego area, only Sage Garden was willing to provide care and happened to have a bed available.
I greatly appreciate anything you can do.
