I am writing on behalf of a precious girl, newly named Nala. I was introduced to this baby girl on Monday. She is playful and loving and has a chance for a new life. Nala was found abandoned in East LA. I was immediately intrigued and wanted to help. After an adventurous trip to the VCA, we learned she had no microchip, and no one trying to claim her. This is where her journey started. We knew for at least that night she had a warm bed to sleep in and a warm meal to wake up to. While she played around the living room we decided to take to social media for help. Thank you to all the great people who stepped up to repost, reach out, and spread the word. It takes a village.
After having 2 warm nights it was time for Nala to find a new place to stay, and fast. My husband and I hopped in the car and headed to pick her up and figure out what to do with her. We wanted so badly to keep her. She is truly special. All dogs are but some just stand out from the crowd. That is Nala. Her eyes are deep and full of love. Unfortunately, we live on a sailboat with 2 pups of our own. It was back to square one. It was at this moment we met Marissa who jumped in with us on this journey to keep Nala out of a shelter.
We still had some significant hurdles in front of us. Rightfully, everyone had lots of questions and we didn't have answers. Nala didn't come with a journal of what her life had been like before or how old she was or if she had her shots…so we started to go down the channels to try and get as many answers as possible.
Here was our Plan:
Step 1. Vet Visit - Exam and Vaccines ASAP = $500
Step 2. Boarding/Foster Fees, Spay, Obedience Training, and Animal Socializing = $2250
Step 3. Find her a forever home = Priceless
What we learned:
Estimated Age: 1 - 1.5yrs old
Weight: 58.5lbs
Temperament: Sweet and Loving (we already knew this)
Spayed: No (Not yet but will be soon)
She might have had a litter of pups: Unsure. She did not have any milk in her mammal glands but it can’t be ruled out just yet.
What we did // Vaccines:
Bordatella
Rabies
Distemper Parvo with Lepto
Influenza shot
De-worming medication
In our search to answer Step 2, we were put in touch with an incredible rescue team who was willing to take her in after her Vet visit. Thank you Bone_Voyage for being a part of Nala’s path forward.
Today 1/24/24 at noon Nala was taken in with kindness and love. She immediately started wagging her tail and started to make herself comfortable. Their team will work with her as she grows into a loyal and gentle forever companion.
During her stay at Bone Voyage, she will be evaluated, trained, and cared for until she is ready to join a new family. They cover her food costs and spay as well as follow-up appts. and of course the the adoption process. On average it is typically around a 2-week stay. We will be receiving regular updates/ progress reports, photos, and a chance to visit her.
We are fully invested and believe her rags-to-riches story has only just begun. We will provide all of her updates for any interested in a feel-good storyline of a pup who was once abandoned. Perhaps her future parent is reading this now. Either way, we are excited to see this through. If you feel compelled to donate anything helps. Our goal is to cover the cost of her Training and current Vet bill and maybe a new toy once she is finished.
We truly appreciate all the good vibes and support in Nala’s New Life.
All donations that exceed our goal will go directly to Rescues and Fosters in need.
Love and Paw Prints,
Taylor, Lorenzo & Marissa
