Nala Nicole's Surgery

Saturday 4/23/22 morning, around 8 AM, our sweet girl Nala accidentally got out of the house. We didn’t know that our back door was cracked open, and she nudged her little nose right through there and opened it. She took off from where we live on Baltimore pike back towards Willow Road into the fields. We instantly started running after her, calling her name. Next thing you know, we hear two gunshots. Another one went off, and we heard our poor girl whine so loud. 2 more shots were fired after being injured. She started running towards us to come home after the first two shots scared her, but they still chose to shoot her in the leg. Whoever this was I truly believe they knew what they were doing and was intentionally going after her. The one who decided to do this didn’t even have the decency to come looking for her owners, so I hope you’re happy with yourself. Human decency seems to be disappearing more and more these days. Nala girl is currently at the ER being taken care of. She isn’t “just a dog” to us. She’s part of our family and we are praying that our girl will be okay!!! Nala is alert and stable! Her tibia was broken into many pieces, and she has pieces of metal in her leg. We are waiting for the surgeon to look at her tests first thing Monday morning so we can decide on the next steps to get our girl better! Our sweet girl’s leg is bandaged, and she is trying to put some pressure on it. She is still getting lots of fluids to manage her pain. She is absolutely petrified to go outside so the vet techs are struggling with that. We went to visit, and we were able to get her to go out, but she was extremely skittish. This will be a long process, but we will do everything to get our girl back to her normal self!! The surgeon saw Nala this morning and looked over her scans. She will be needing surgery. She must get implants in her leg which it will then take at least 12 weeks for the vet to see if it will completely heal correctly due to how it is shattered. She will have to minimize her playtime by a lot and won’t be able to do all the things a dog loves to do for a while.
We did call the police after this happened! They told us they don’t get involved with cases like this so we need to wait until Monday to contact the local dog law officer! I will most certainly post updates!!

For all of the tests they have had to run, the medicine they have had to give her and the surgery that she will be getting today, we are looking at a $14,000 vet bill. That doesn't even include what we will have to do after the surgery and what she will be needing during her recovery. It is a lot to ask of us, but the smallest amount from anyone would help us so much! We want to do everything to get our girl healed and back to normal. Thank you so much to everyone who has been incredibly supportive through this; wishing the best for Nala!
