Nala is a spunky 4 year old Basset Hound. About 3 months ago,she started acting weird. She would hang her head pretty low to the ground,she wouldn't want to go down the steps,she didn't want anyone picking her up. So,we took her to our vet. We did X-rays on her neck and bloodwork.All of which came back fine. She was persciribed some ant-inflammatory meds and to come back if anything changed. A month goes by and she starts acting weird again. We go back in and do X-rays on the spine.Again,nothing. This time she perscribed steriods and to come back if anything changed. The steroids helped this time and we thought she had been fixed. No such luck. Sunday April 23rd,she started acting weird again but this was on a whole new level. The pain meds weren't working this time. So,Monday rolls around and I'm taking her out to potty and she just collapses and screams and screams out in pain. I finally managed to get her into the crate and rushed her back to our vet. We did X-rays of her left arm(she was holding it up at this time). Nothing! So our vet recommended we see a surgeon. Next day we drove over a hour away and received some scary news. She has IVDD(Intervertebral Disk Disease) causing extreme pain that shoots down from her neck into her left arm. Basically the space between her disk in her neck have either rupturd or almost there.We don't know hany many are affected until she has the surgery.She is now showing signs of nuerological distress.Her left front and back paws are dropping or dragging. She cannot bear any weight at this point. She is literally stuck in her crate other than to use the bathroom(which is becoming harder) .
At this point the only course of action is for a specialist to do surgery. Our first estimate was $6,611.48! So,today April 26th I got on the phone and went to work on finding a lower price. We live in Kentucky and Ohio State Collage of Veterinary Medicine quoted me at 4,500.That' s what we need the day of surgery,The rest (which is 1,000) we can pay over 9 months.
ALL money donated will be used entirely on Nala's surgery. She NEEDS this surgery now but coming up with 4,500 is not easy.And that literally breaks my heart!
My Nala princess means a great deal to this family. She just makes this house happy. I've always said to people she's got a motor in her booty! I wish you could have seen her before all this happened ,when she would greet you her butt generally met your first. She's quite the theif as well.Many ribeyes,Big Bufords,Easter candy,loaves of bread and many more food items have disappeared off our counters over these past 4 years.
