Help make NAKED: A short film about consent

Hello!
My name is Mia Morrissey and I am making a short film called Naked.

Naked is about about consent and consequence. It celebrates art and the sanctity of body autonomy and challenges how we think about nudity by questioning what it really means to be vulnerable. What it really means to be ‘naked’.

In the film, we see a nude model posing for a life drawing class, but what we hear, is a phone call (that takes place as the world is ending) in which a woman and her ex-boyfriend discuss an instance of non consensual sex that happened between them when they were together.

I, myself have experienced sexual misconduct; In seemingly 'safe' social environments, when I was fully clothed and with men I knew personally. The comparison of these experiences with my experiences life modelling is what drives me to make this short film.

When I was a life model I was often naked in front of sometimes hundreds of strangers at a time but I never felt unsafe. It was a professional environment so I consented to a professional gaze and the artists respected that. They respected me and my body. They understood that you can appreciate and even celebrate a woman’s body without sexualising it.
They understood consent.

1 in 4 women are victims of sexual misconduct in Australia ... And that number doesn’t include the cases that go unreported.

This is obviously a personal project for me, but it’s personal for so many and I wish it wasn’t. That is why myself and the extraordinary team who have already given so much of their time (for free), want to make Naked.

We want to show how a woman can feel deeply unsafe, vulnerable and 'naked', regardless of what she’s wearing; But also, how trust, respect and nudity can exist together.

We want to show the reality of vulnerability and danger for so many women, whilst also setting an aspirational but achievable precedent for the future of consent.

So with that in mind, we are asking if you would consider financially contributing to this project.

You will be contributing to the fair equity minimum payment of all our hard working crew, cast and our artists.

Your support would allow us to not just make this short film but hopefully actualise a much bigger purpose.

I truly believe that through art (in particular film); We can prove nudity can be un-sexualised, we can show more positive examples of men respecting women and their bodies which will facilitate a deeper collective understanding of consent and most importantly, we can enact real change.

So, thank you for your support in whatever way it may come.

We can’t wait to make Naked and share it with you all.

x Mia
