Nail Art Studio for Families and Community

Hi! I’m Kara, an artist, mother of three, and a firm believer in the power of community.

In 2023, I moved across the country and began rethinking what “community” means to me. As an artist, I’ve dabbled in many forms of creativity, but about a year and a half ago I fell down a surprising rabbit hole: gel nails.

My 12-year-old developed the habit of biting and picking at her nails—a struggle I knew all too well as a recovering nail-biter. Thus began our “gel nail journey”. Gel polish not only strengthened her nails, making them less satisfying to pick, but our regular manicure sessions became a time to slow down and check in with one another.

This journey eventually grew into something bigger. Friends and family began asking me to do their nails and I realized I’d found my calling.

With my youngest now in preschool, I’m ready to take the next step. My goal is to create a space where parents can take time for themselves without needing to leave their kids behind. My home-based nail studio will welcome parents and children alike, offering an inclusive, creative atmosphere where self-care is celebrated as a family-friendly experience.

But this is just the beginning. My long-term vision is to open a nail spa that’s as vibrant and unique as the individuals who visit. Picture a space filled with color and whimsy—a living art installation where every detail inspires. This will be a haven for those who crave creativity and connection, offering everything from quick nail appointments to indulgent spa days.

Unlike traditional spas with their muted tones and minimalist designs, my salon will celebrate the beauty of living loudly and authentically. It won’t be for everyone, but for those who value art, playfulness, and self-expression, it will be unforgettable.

Children will always be welcome, and their presence will be embraced—not treated as an afterthought. This will be a space where self-care and parenting coexist, allowing a community of people to set an example for kids (and other adults) by showing them that taking care of yourself is not only an act of strength and love but that you can laugh and act like a kid while doing so.

If this vision resonates with you, I would be so grateful for your support. Every contribution helps me bring this dream to life and create a space where art, community, and self-care come together in a truly unique way.
